With all the changes in the publishing industry today, you never know what you are going to get when you try a new author. There is some really poor writing and editing being published. It was a real pleasure to read Over My Live Body and feel like one was reading a mature, professional writer in a debut novel.
I wasn't sure whether to classify Over My Live Body as a mystery or a thriller because we know pretty early on who is stalking Delilah Price, a nude model and aspiring sculptor. What we don't know is where he is and what he's done. Delilah has just kicked out her abusive boyfriend and is getting threatening phone calls and notes from this stalker who seems to know her every movement. The police don't seem to take it seriously until the death of her best friend's boyfriend. By that time, it may be too late for the even the police to save her.
This book is much grittier than what I usually read. It has more sex and more blood but neither are taken to an extreme. I did find a plot point or two that were a little unbelievable like when Delilah kept talking to the stalker on the phone and running around New York City by herself after dark. Just seemed like dumb behavior as a I read it. It was, however, a definite page-turner for me. It kept my interest and attention to the very end and I will be looking forward to the second book in the series.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
